CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
Course Overview
This is an induction program designed to provide new and existing building and construction industry participants with introductory knowledge and understanding necessary to commence or continue work in the building and construction industry.
Any person who conducts construction-type work in Queensland should gain a White Card. Construction type work means work that contributes directly to the erection, construction, extension or structural alteration of a building or part of a building, civil construction or demolition work.
Eligibility and Target Audience
There are no specific requirements for entry into this course of study.
- New and existing workers to the building and construction industry
- Other personnel wishing to attain a White card
This course must be completed BEFORE entering a building and construction work site.
Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:
- OH&S legislative requirements
- Construction hazards and control measures
- OH&S communication and reporting processes
- OH&S incident response procedures
Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency CPCCWH1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry and be issued with a pre-numbered White Card supplied to Training Services by Workplace Health and Safety QLD.
Course Requirements
You must be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement).
Proof of identify must be obtained before training commences. Details of the evidence sighted will be recorded either by photocopy and signed verification by Training Services staff member or by noting the relevant identifying details.
Provide one (1) photographic ID in the form of original or certified copies of:
- Current and valid driver’s licence issued by an Australian State of Territory
- An 18 + card
- A current and valid passport
- School identity card
OR Provide two (2) forms of other ID in form of original or certified copies of
- Medicare Card
- Credit Card
- Birth Certificate
- Rates Notice
- Public Utility Account
- Land Line Telephone Account
- Citizenship or Immigration certificate

Course Duration
Participants work self-paced at our premises in Palmer Street, Portsmith and the course takes around 4-5 hours including assessment marking. We hold group classes where required and are able to deliver training onsite in a classroom capacity.
